Applicants must have completed a four-year BA degree to be eligible for the one-year MA program (prospective students with a three-year BA only should see the 2-year MA program in Critical Gender Studies). In addition to meeting the general CEU admissions requirements, applicants must attach a 500-word typewritten essay on the relevance of their academic/professional background to graduate study at CEU and to their future career goals. For information on CEU admissions requirements and the application process, please consult the main CEU website. The program offers a comprehensive focus of study for students with a first degree in a traditional discipline and some prior knowledge in gender analysis. Students undertake coursework in an interdisciplinary range of mandatory and elective classes that examine gender in symbolic, social and theoretical terms. Coursework is followed by an independent, original research component—a Master’s thesis written under the supervision of two faculty members. Fellowships and tuition waivers are available.
