Im Jahr 2022 wurden erstmals insgesamt vier Staatspreise für herausragende Abschlüsse an Privatuniversitäten vergeben.
Prämiert wurden drei Master- bzw. Diplomabsolventinnen mit Würdigungspreisen und ein PhD Absolvent mit dem Award of Excellence. Die Preise werden vom Bundesministerium für Wissenschaft, Bildung und Forschung ausgelobt und sind mit je 3.000,– Euro dotiert. Vergeben wurden sie im feierlichen Rahmen im Herbst 2022 in der Aula der Wissenschaften in Wien.
Und dies sind die PreisträgerInnen:
Ana Udovic aus Slowenien studierte an der Modul Private University, wo sie ihren Master in Nachhaltigkeit und Governance mit Bestnoten erhielt (Titel der Abschlussarbeit: The role of bicycling for the resilience and sustainability of transport in urban areas in the post-COVID-19 world). Über das Studium hinaus spielte sie eine zentrale Rolle im Nachhaltigkeitsausschuss der Universität, der Veranstaltungen zur Förderung der Nachhaltigkeit an der Modul PU organisiert.
An der Webster Vienna Private University schloss die Österreicherin Jennelie Korbes mit Bestnoten ihren Master in Psychology with an emphasis in Counseling Psychology zum Thema „A Mixed Methods Study on the Profile of a Peer: Evaluating Austria’s Peer Support Program for Police Officers“ ab.
Bereits jetzt gilt die Österreicherin Selina Ott als der internationale Rising Star an der Trompete, sie gewann den Opus Klassik Award und als erste Frau überhaupt den ARD Wettbewerb. Sie konzertiert als junge Musikerin mit den Top Orchestern und DirigentInnen. An der Musik- und Kunst-Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien schloss Selina Ott in allen Prüfungen mit Auszeichnung ihr Diplomstudium Orchesterblasinstrumente/Trompete ab (Masterarbeit: Die mikrotonale Trompete präsentiert anhand des Solostückes „I can´t breathe“ von Georg Friedrich Haas).
Als einziger Vertreter einer österreichischen Privatuniversität wurde Dr. Stephan Zandanell, Ph.D. aus Salzburg für seine Dissertation „The natural course of anti-mitochondrial antibody positive subjects: a cohort study over six years of follow-up” (“Der natürliche Verlauf von Patienten mit anti-mitochondrialen Antikörpern: eine Kohortenstudie mit über 6 Jahren Follow-up”) mit dem Österreichischen Staatspreis „Award of Excellence“ 2022 ausgezeichnet. Mit diesem Staatspreis werden seit 2008 die 40 besten Dissertationen des abgelaufenen Studienjahres honoriert. In seiner ausgezeichneten Dissertation beschäftigte sich der 33-jährige Alumnus der Paracelsus Medizinischen Privatuniversität (PMU) in Salzburg – Abschluss Studium der Humanmedizin 2013 mit magna cum laude, Abschluss Ph.D.-Studium Medical Science 2021 als Jahrgangsbester mit Notendurchschnitt 1,04 – mit Primär biliärer Cholangitis (PBC), einer seltenen Autoimmunerkrankung der Leber.

State Prizes 2022 awarded to graduates of private universities
In 2022, a total of four State Prizes were awarded for the first time to outstanding graduates of private universities.
Three Master’s and Diploma graduates were awarded Honourable Mentions and one PhD graduate was awarded the Award of Excellence. The prizes are awarded by the Federal Ministry of Science, Education and Research and are endowed with 3,000 euros each. They were awarded at a ceremony in the Aula der Wissenschaften in Vienna in autumn 2022.
And these are the prize winners:
Ana Udovic from Slovenia studied at Modul Private University, where she received her Master’s degree in Sustainability and Governance with top grades (thesis title: The role of bicycling for the resilience and sustainability of transport in urban areas in the post-COVID-19 world). Beyond her studies, she played a central role in the university’s Sustainability Committee, which organises events to promote sustainability at Modul PU.

The Austrian Selina Ott is already considered the international rising star on the trumpet, she won the Opus Klassik Award and was the first woman ever to win the ARD competition. As a young musician, she performs with top orchestras and conductors. Selina Ott completed her diploma studies in orchestral wind instruments/trumpet at the Music and Art University of the City of Vienna with distinction in all examinations (master’s thesis: The microtonal trumpet presented on the basis of the solo piece „I can’t breathe“ by Georg Friedrich Haas).
As the only representative of an Austrian private university, Dr. Stephan Zandanell, Ph.D. from Salzburg was awarded the Austrian State Prize „Award of Excellence“ 2022 for his dissertation „The natural course of anti-mitochondrial antibody positive subjects: a cohort study over six years of follow-up“. Since 2008, this state prize has been awarded to the 40 best dissertations of the past academic year. In his award-winning dissertation, the 33-year-old alumnus of Paracelsus Medical Private University (PMU) in Salzburg – who graduated in human medicine in 2013 with magna cum laude, and completed his Ph.D. studies in medical science in 2021 as the best in his class with a grade point average of 1.04 – dealt with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), a rare autoimmune disease of the liver.
